In work and life, author and writing teacher Joni B. Cole prefers a macro lens, seeking the extraordinary in the ordinary, the significance in everyday moments. Nominated for a US Fellowship Award and Pushcart Prize, she has authored two books for writers, including Good Naked: Reflections on How to Write More, Write Better, and Be Happier (University Press of New England, 2017); and Toxic Feedback: Helping Writers Survive and Thrive ( “strongly recommended” for students and teachers by Library Journal). She is also the author of the acclaimed essay collection, Another Bad-Dog Book: Essays on Life, Love, and Neurotic Human Behavior (“Every page...offers riotously funny and outrageously honest observations without sacrificing either Cole’s fiercely intelligent insights or the lyrical brilliance of her beautiful writing,” Gina Barreca). Joni is the founding creator of the three-volume “This Day” series that shares a day in the life of hundreds of women across America (“fascinating and eye-opening,” Publishers Weekly). For twenty years, Joni has taught creative writing to adults in her community through her own Writer's Center in White River Junction, Vermont. She is on the creative writing faculty of the New Hampshire Institute of Art, and teaches workshops within the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program at Dartmouth College. She also leads expressive writing workshops at women’s shelters, the VA hospital, the restorative justice program, and a diversity of other nonprofit and educational organizations. Joni is a frequent speaker at conferences and universities around the country, and is a contributor to The Writer magazine. She lives in Vermont and has two daughters.
